In my opinion, a nice portfolio would give someone a much greater advantage. Employers read résumés all day, but what they see in a portfolio will stick in their head and make you stand out.

What is going to STICK with you from this unit?
Although the beginning of this unit was a lot like DIM, it has recently diverged into a discussion of the ins and out of the computer. I learned more about the software in the computer than the physical elements of it, but maybe that's just because software is just what I'm more interested in. In addition to the components of the computer, I also learned about how to properly use one, from how to write emails (no ASAPs) to how to make a killer résumé. This sticks with me because I am able to apply this to real world situations, such as applying for scholarships.
Email etiquette, however, has to do with emails specifically. Emails by nature are far more formal than conversations or text messages. Therefore, the rules of email would be to use a more formal sentence style, be polite (of course), include a proper email signature, and never ever EVER use text slang. My favorite website is, of course, apple.com. In the header, we can see analogous color being used to add emphasis on the hand in the middle of the screen. Incorporating those colors with the band on the phone gives the viewer a sense of unity. The tints and shades of pink and purple serve to add realism to the picture. Typography is being well-used on this page. The title catches the eye and compels the viewer to read the subtitle. Also, the blue color (also analogous) draws attention to the links, further drawing the viewer in to the product Apple is selling: the U2 album.
Just recently, I sent a mass email to my teachers, community members, and other role models in my life. Instead of writing out all of my credentials, I just attached a link to the resume section of my website, which impressed everyone. Now my letters will be more accurate and personal instead of based solely on what they think I'm lie. This can be a useful real-world application to the resume. Also when I get older, I will create another website for my animation portfolio so that animation studios can start looking at my work and taking me seriously. An academic-based resume would help greatly with that.
